Job Description

As the Chief Chemist at our Mesa facility, you will spearhead our R&D initiatives, leading a team of talented chemists in developing groundbreaking chemical processes and products. This pivotal role demands a visionary leader with deep technical expertise, a passion for innovation, and the ability to drive complex projects from concept to commercialization. You will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for our chemical research, ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards, and fostering a culture of scientific excellence and continuous improvement. This is an on-site position vital to our operational success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the strategic vision for chemical research and development, aligning with company goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of chemists and technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Oversee the design, execution, and analysis of complex experiments, ensuring scientific rigor and data integrity.
  • Drive the development of new chemical formulations, processes, and applications from laboratory to pilot scale and production.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and quality standards (e.g., ISO, GMP).
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively, delivering results on schedule.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and commercial teams.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapes to identify new opportunities.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, patent applications, and scientific publications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges encountered during research and production.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in chemical R&D, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior managerial role.
  • Proven track record of successful product/process development and commercialization in the chemical industry.
  • Strong expertise in analytical chemistry techniques (e.g., GC-MS, HPLC, NMR, FTIR).
  • In-depth knowledge of chemical synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and materials science.
  • Experience with scale-up processes and manufacturing support.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements (e.g., EPA, OSHA, REACH).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced materials, specialty chemicals, or sustainable chemistry.
  • Knowledge of process analytical technology (PAT) and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Patent authorship or significant publication record.
  • Experience working in a global R&D environment.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP).
