Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Public Health Nurse to join our team, focusing on community health initiatives within Douglas County. This vital role involves providing health education, preventive care, and support services to diverse populations, with a particular emphasis on individuals and families who are new to the United States or require visa sponsorship. You will play a crucial role in assessing community health needs, implementing health promotion programs, and connecting residents to vital resources. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct community health assessments and identify health disparities.

  • Provide direct nursing care, screenings, and referrals in clinics, schools, and community settings.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, healthcare providers, and government agencies to coordinate services.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Provide culturally sensitive care and communication to diverse populations, including those with limited English proficiency.
  • Assist with case management and follow-up for high-risk individuals and families.
  • Advocate for policies and programs that promote public health.
  • Attend professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in public health nursing.

Required Skills

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska or eligibility for licensure.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in community health, public health, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of public health principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and cultural competence skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Health (MPH) or related field.
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish, Arabic, or other languages prevalent in the community).
  • Experience with grant writing or program development.
  • Certification in Public Health Nursing (CPHN).
  • Experience working with immigrant or refugee populations.
