Job Description

Are you passionate about dinosaurs and love sharing your knowledge with enthusiasm? The Natural History Museum of Utah is seeking a dynamic and engaging Dinosaur Museum Educator with a strong public speaking focus for our outreach programs in West Valley City. This role involves developing and delivering interactive educational programs, tours, and presentations about paleontology and the Mesozoic Era to diverse audiences, including school groups, families, and the general public. You will be responsible for bringing the world of dinosaurs to life through captivating storytelling, hands-on activities, and insightful discussions, inspiring wonder and curiosity about our planet’s ancient past.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging public presentations, guided tours, and workshops focused on dinosaurs and paleontology for various age groups.
  • Develop and implement educational activities that align with museum learning objectives and state science standards.
  • Act as a primary spokesperson for dinosaur-related exhibits and programs, ensuring an exciting and informative experience for all visitors.
  • Train and mentor volunteers or junior educators on presentation techniques and content delivery.
  • Maintain and prepare educational materials, specimens, and props related to dinosaur exhibits.
  • Collaborate with other museum departments to enhance the overall visitor experience and program offerings.
  • Gather feedback from participants to continually improve program content and delivery methods.
  • Represent the museum at community events and outreach initiatives in West Valley City.
  • Ensure the safety and engagement of all program participants.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills with the ability to captivate and educate diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and passion for dinosaurs, paleontology, and natural history.
  • Experience in informal education, museum education, teaching, or public outreach.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and occasional holidays as program schedules require.
  • Ability to lift and move educational materials and equipment (up to 25 lbs).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Paleontology, Geology, Biology, Education, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a museum, zoo, aquarium, or science center.
  • Proficiency in a second language (e.g., Spanish).
  • Experience with curriculum development and program evaluation.
