Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Forklift Yard Driver to join our dynamic logistics team in Cleveland. This role is crucial for maintaining the smooth flow of materials and products within our busy outdoor yard. As a Yard Driver, you will operate various types of forklifts and other material handling equipment to load, unload, stack, and move merchandise and pallets across the yard. This position involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, and appropriate weather gear will be provided to ensure your comfort and safety. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate inventory placement and contributing to a safe and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate forklifts (e.g., sit-down, stand-up, reach trucks) and other material handling equipment to move, stack, and retrieve products and materials in an outdoor yard environment.
- Load and unload trailers and other vehicles efficiently and accurately.
- Perform daily equipment checks and minor maintenance (e.g., battery checks, fluid levels) to ensure operational readiness.
- Inspect products for damage and report discrepancies or issues immediately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.
- Work effectively in varying outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding yard operations and material flow.
- Participate in inventory counts and help maintain accurate stock records.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Valid forklift certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Strong understanding of warehouse and yard safety protocols.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) for extended periods.
- Comfortable working outdoors in diverse weather conditions, with provided gear.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record-keeping.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a large-scale logistics, distribution, or manufacturing yard environment.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems or handheld scanners.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
