Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized and technically proficient Fleet Asset Manager to join our operations team in Charleston, SC. This role is a critical administrative and technical blend, responsible for overseeing the lifecycle management of our diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. The successful candidate will ensure optimal fleet performance, compliance with safety regulations, and efficient resource allocation. You will manage maintenance schedules, vendor relationships, asset tracking, and collaborate closely with operational teams to support continuous service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the complete lifecycle of fleet assets, including acquisition, deployment, maintenance, and disposal.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
- Oversee fleet maintenance and repair activities, coordinating with internal technicians and external vendors.
- Maintain accurate records of fleet inventory, maintenance history, fuel consumption, and operational costs.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including DOT requirements.
- Analyze fleet data to identify trends, optimize performance, and recommend improvements.
- Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and monitor service level agreements for parts and repairs.
- Prepare budgets and track expenditures related to fleet operations.
- Implement and manage GPS tracking and telematics systems to monitor vehicle performance and driver behavior.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of fleet vehicles to ensure safety and operational readiness.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience in fleet management or asset management, preferably in a logistics or transportation environment.
- Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and repair procedures (both gasoline and diesel).
- Proficiency with fleet management software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze complex data and generate actionable insights.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working with diverse teams and vendors.
- Proven ability to manage budgets and control costs effectively.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and other relevant safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related technical field.
- ASE certifications or equivalent technical qualifications.
- Experience with heavy equipment management in addition to standard fleet vehicles.
- Project management experience.
- Experience working with telematics systems and data analytics platforms.
