Job Description

We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable Festival Stewards to join our team for the upcoming summer festival season. This is a fantastic opportunity to be an integral part of one of Vancouver’s most iconic outdoor events, working in a vibrant, fun, and fast-paced environment. As a Festival Steward, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, enjoyment, and smooth operation of the festival for all attendees. This position is perfect for individuals who love being outdoors, enjoy interacting with people, and are eager to contribute to a memorable cultural experience. No prior experience is necessary; we provide all the training you’ll need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly and helpful assistance to festival-goers, including directing them to stages, facilities, and vendor areas.
  • Monitor designated festival zones to ensure compliance with festival rules and safety guidelines.
  • Assist with crowd management and flow, particularly during peak times or transitions between performances.
  • Be a visible and approachable point of contact for information, questions, and minor issues.
  • Report any safety concerns, medical emergencies, or suspicious activities to appropriate festival staff.
  • Assist with setup and teardown tasks as required, including signage placement and area tidiness.
  • Work collaboratively with other festival staff and volunteers to maintain a positive and efficient environment.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times, reflecting the spirit of the festival.
  • Help enforce festival policies regarding prohibited items, alcohol consumption, and general conduct.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • A positive, 'can-do' attitude and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during the festival period.
  • Comfortable working in a busy, outdoor festival environment.
  • Basic understanding of customer service principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in event support, customer service, or volunteer roles is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival or local cultural events.
  • First Aid and/or CPR certification is an asset.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is beneficial.
