Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Google Network Support Engineer to join our dynamic team, focusing on both remote and field support operations within the Manchester area. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and security of Google’s expansive network infrastructure. You will engage in complex troubleshooting, diagnostics, and resolution of network issues, providing expert-level support both virtually and through direct on-site intervention when required. This position demands a proactive approach to network management, a deep understanding of networking protocols, and a commitment to upholding Google’s high standards of service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level remote and on-site technical support for Google's network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and servers.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex network performance issues, outages, and security incidents using a variety of troubleshooting tools and methodologies.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and configurations on network hardware and software components.
  • Collaborate closely with global engineering teams to implement network changes, deploy new technologies, and contribute to network design improvements.
  • Document all incidents, resolutions, and configurations accurately to maintain a comprehensive knowledge base.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical network events within the specified region.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and operational best practices across the network infrastructure.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and other core networking protocols.
  • Proficiency in network troubleshooting tools and techniques (e.g., Wireshark, traceroute, ping).
  • Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems for network device management and scripting.
  • Demonstrated experience with major networking vendor equipment (e.g., Cisco, Juniper).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex technical issues clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Networking, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIS, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) networking services.
  • Familiarity with network automation and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
  • Knowledge of ITIL frameworks and best practices for incident and change management.
