Job Description

Nathan Adelson Hospice is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Hospice Music Practitioner to join our interdisciplinary team in North Las Vegas. This top-tier role is pivotal in enhancing the quality of life for our patients and their families through the therapeutic power of music. The successful candidate will provide individualized and group music interventions, focusing on comfort, pain management, emotional expression, spiritual support, and connection during the end-of-life journey. You will work directly with patients in their homes, in our inpatient units, and in various care settings, utilizing your musical talents to create a peaceful and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patient needs and develop individualized music therapy treatment plans consistent with hospice goals of care.
  • Provide direct music interventions to patients and families, including live music, guided imagery with music, songwriting, and lyric analysis.
  • Utilize music to address pain, anxiety, spiritual distress, grief, and other psychosocial needs.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (nurses, social workers, chaplains, physicians) to integrate music therapy into the overall care plan.
  • Educate patients, families, and staff about the benefits and applications of music in hospice care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and in-service training sessions.
  • Facilitate memorial services and grief support groups with music as appropriate.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and best practices in music therapy and hospice care.

Required Skills

  • Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC) from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
  • Proficiency in playing multiple musical instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, voice).
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt musical interventions to diverse patient populations and clinical needs.
  • Exceptional communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Profound empathy, compassion, and sensitivity to the needs of individuals at the end of life.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music Therapy or a related field.
  • Prior experience (2+ years) specifically in hospice, palliative care, or gerontology settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Additional training or certification in grief counseling or bereavement support.
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus.
