Job Description
Join Vitas Healthcare as a Hospice Nurse (RN) for home visits in the Orlando area. This vital role involves providing direct patient care, assessing patient needs, and developing individualized care plans in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team. You will play a crucial role in managing symptoms, educating families, and ensuring comfort for patients in their own homes. This position requires a compassionate, skilled, and independent Registered Nurse dedicated to making a profound difference in the lives of patients and their families. Mileage reimbursement is provided for your travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, including physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of hospice patients.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
- Provide expert symptom management and pain control, ensuring patient comfort and quality of life.
- Educate patients and families on disease progression, symptom management, and end-of-life care.
- Perform skilled nursing interventions, including wound care, catheter care, and intravenous infusions.
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Communicate effectively with physicians, social workers, spiritual counselors, and other team members.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families during a challenging time.
- Participate in on-call rotation as required.
Required Skills
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience, preferably in an acute care, home health, or long-term care setting.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated compassion, empathy, and sensitivity to the needs of terminally ill patients and their families.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) certification.
- Experience in hospice, palliative care, or home health nursing.
- Familiarity with local community resources in the Orlando area.
