Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Hospice & Palliative Care Nurse to join our team in Derby. This is a unique opportunity for a registered nurse passionate about providing end-of-life care and symptom management in a supportive and holistic environment. Key Responsibilities
- Provide holistic nursing care to patients with life-limiting illnesses, focusing on symptom management and comfort.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Administer medications, including pain relief, and monitor their effectiveness, adjusting as necessary.
- Offer emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their families.
- Educate patients and families on managing symptoms and navigating end-of-life care.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records in accordance with professional standards and Nuffield Health policies.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and contribute to the ongoing development of palliative care services.
- Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring their wishes and preferences are respected.
- Collaborate effectively with doctors, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
Required Skills
- Valid NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration as a Registered Nurse (Adult).
- Minimum of 2 years post-registration nursing experience, ideally in an acute, community, or specialist care setting.
- Demonstrable experience in patient assessment, care planning, and symptom management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-registration qualification in palliative care, oncology, or a related specialty.
- Experience working within a hospice or palliative care environment.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice guidelines in end-of-life care.
- Experience in mentorship or teaching.
- Advanced communication skills training.
