Job Description
Optum is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Managed Care Pharmacy Technician to join our team in Millcreek, UT. In this office-based role, you will play a crucial part in the authorization, processing, and management of prescription medications within a managed care environment. This position requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to patient care and regulatory compliance. You will work closely with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and members to ensure accurate and timely processing of pharmacy claims and prior authorizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Process prescription prior authorization requests according to established guidelines and regulations.
- Communicate with prescribing physicians and pharmacies to obtain necessary information for medication approvals.
- Enter and maintain accurate patient and medication data in the pharmacy system.
- Assist members with inquiries regarding their pharmacy benefits, co-pays, and medication coverage.
- Collaborate with pharmacists to resolve complex medication issues and ensure patient safety.
- Identify and escalate complex cases to a pharmacist or clinical review team as appropriate.
- Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuous learning opportunities.
Required Skills
- Active Pharmacy Technician license/certification in the state of Utah (if required).
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a managed care, retail, or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with pharmacy software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent data entry and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and pharmaceutical calculations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field.
- Experience with prior authorization processes specifically in a managed care organization.
- Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
- Familiarity with Medicare Part D and Medicaid pharmacy benefits.
