Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Middle School Band Director to lead our thriving music program. This role is perfect for an enthusiastic educator eager to inspire young musicians and build a robust instrumental music curriculum. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching multiple band classes, fostering student engagement, and managing instrument inventory and an allocated equipment budget. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive middle school band curriculum that aligns with state and district standards.
  • Conduct daily band classes, including beginning, intermediate, and advanced ensembles.
  • Prepare students for various performances, including school concerts, community events, and district assessments.
  • Manage the band program's equipment inventory, including instruments, sheet music, and instructional materials.
  • Administer and oversee the allocated equipment budget, making strategic purchasing decisions.
  • Recruit and retain students for the band program, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Collaborate with other music educators and school staff to create interdisciplinary experiences.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and administration regarding program activities and student progress.
  • Organize and supervise extracurricular activities such as honor bands, solo and ensemble festivals, and field trips.
  • Maintain a safe and organized rehearsal space and instrument storage area.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field.
  • Valid Florida Educator's Certificate with an endorsement in Music (K-12) or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Proficiency in directing various wind and percussion instruments.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach music theory, sight-reading, and ensemble performance techniques.
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to engage middle school students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in budget management and inventory control.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music Education or Instrumental Performance.
  • Prior experience as a band director at the middle school level.
  • Experience with diverse student populations and differentiated instruction.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in music education technology.
