Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Middle School Band Director to lead our instrumental music program. This role is crucial for developing young musicians, fostering a love for music, and building a strong, inclusive band community. The ideal candidate will be responsible for directing various middle school band ensembles, developing curriculum, managing the instrument inventory and equipment budget, and preparing students for performances and competitions. You will inspire students to achieve their full musical potential while collaborating with fellow educators and engaging with parents and the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and instruct various middle school band ensembles (e.g., concert band, jazz band, beginning band).
- Develop and implement a comprehensive and engaging instrumental music curriculum aligned with state standards.
- Manage the band program's equipment inventory, including instruments, sheet music, and other resources.
- Oversee and manage the allocated equipment budget, ensuring responsible and strategic purchasing.
- Recruit and retain students in the band program, promoting participation and success.
- Organize, schedule, and direct band concerts, performances, and community events.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support musical development.
- Collaborate with other music educators, school staff, and administrators to support a holistic arts program.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, performances, and program needs.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all students.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field.
- Valid Washington State teaching certification with a music endorsement.
- Demonstrated proficiency in directing instrumental ensembles.
- Strong pedagogical skills in teaching various band instruments.
- Experience with curriculum development and implementation.
- Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage budgets effectively and make sound purchasing decisions.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music Education or Instrumental Performance.
- Minimum of 2 years of successful teaching experience as a Band Director at the middle school level.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and adapting instruction to meet varied needs.
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in music education.
- Proficiency with music technology and notation software.
