Job Description
We are seeking a meticulous and enthusiastic Museum Art Labeler with a focus on Digital Culture Support to join our Collections Management team. This vital role ensures the accurate and consistent labeling of artworks and objects within our extensive collections, both for physical display and digital platforms. You will play a key part in maintaining the integrity and accessibility of our collection information, contributing to an enhanced visitor experience and supporting our digital initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately research, write, and proofread art labels for new acquisitions, rotating exhibitions, and permanent collection displays, adhering to V&A style guidelines.
- Collaborate with curators, conservators, and exhibition designers to ensure labels are informative, engaging, and contextually appropriate.
- Manage and update digital records for all labeled objects within the museum's Collection Management System (CMS), ensuring data consistency and accuracy.
- Assist in the digitization of collection information and assets, including cataloguing details, images, and associated metadata.
- Support the wider digital culture team with content preparation for online platforms, virtual tours, and other digital outreach projects.
- Conduct quality control checks on existing labels and digital data to identify and correct discrepancies.
- Participate in object handling and movement, ensuring safe practices when working with artworks for labeling purposes.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of labeling policies and procedures.
- Provide administrative support to the Collections Management department as required.
Required Skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in written communication.
- Strong research skills with the ability to synthesize complex information clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency in using Collection Management Systems (e.g., TMS, EMu, Adlib) or similar database software.
- Demonstrable interest in art, design, history, or cultural heritage.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Good IT literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Archaeology, Archival Studies, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a museum, gallery, or cultural institution, particularly with labeling, cataloguing, or digital collections.
- Familiarity with digital imaging software and digital asset management (DAM) principles.
- Understanding of copyright and intellectual property rights relating to museum collections.
