Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Oncology Registered Nurse to join our exceptional team at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Hospital. In this vital role, you will provide specialized nursing care to patients undergoing cancer treatment, including chemotherapy administration, symptom management, patient education, and emotional support. You will work within a collaborative environment, utilizing your clinical expertise to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and care quality. This position requires a strong commitment to patient advocacy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, challenging yet rewarding setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, and other oncology treatments safely and accurately, following established protocols.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions to treatments and intervene appropriately.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with oncologists and other healthcare professionals.
- Educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment plans, medication management, and potential side effects.
- Provide emotional support and resources to patients and families coping with cancer diagnoses and treatments.
- Manage symptoms such as pain, nausea, and fatigue, and provide comfort measures.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain up-to-date knowledge of oncology best practices.
Required Skills
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Iowa.
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Compassionate and empathetic patient care approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification.
- Previous experience in an oncology setting (e.g., chemotherapy administration, bone marrow transplant).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
