Job Description

We are seeking empathetic and understanding individuals to join our team as Online Chat Support Specialists, focusing specifically on providing guidance and assistance to 14-year-old teens. This is a 100% remote position, and crucially, involves no phone calls – all interactions will be text-based through our secure online platform. You will be a vital first point of contact, offering a safe and confidential space for teens to discuss challenges, ask questions, and receive support on a variety of topics relevant to their age group, including academic stress, social pressures, emotional well-being, and future planning. This role requires patience, excellent written communication skills, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on young lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with 14-year-old teens through a secure online chat platform, providing empathetic and non-judgmental support.
  • Actively listen to concerns and questions, offering appropriate resources and guidance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to strict privacy protocols in all interactions.
  • Refer complex or critical cases to supervisory staff or designated professional services as per established protocols.
  • Document chat interactions accurately and efficiently in the system.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to youth support and online communication.
  • Collaborate with team members to share insights and improve support strategies.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding child safety and online conduct.

Required Skills

  • Excellent written communication and grammar skills in English.
  • Strong empathy and active listening abilities.
  • Proficiency in using online chat platforms and basic computer software.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in potentially challenging situations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development and common teen issues.
  • Reliable internet connection and a private workspace for remote work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in online chat support, customer service, or youth mentoring.
  • Familiarity with mental health resources and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus, given the diverse community of El Paso.
