Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Purchasing Agent to join our dynamic supply chain team. This critical role involves managing the procurement of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and related products for our extensive network of pharmacies and healthcare facilities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of pharmacy operations, supply chain logistics, and a commitment to ensuring optimal inventory levels, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with all regulatory standards. This position requires exceptional negotiation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the complete purchasing cycle for pharmaceutical products, including order placement, tracking, and reconciliation.
- Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to secure favorable pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
- Monitor inventory levels, anticipate demand, and ensure adequate stock to prevent shortages while minimizing waste.
- Analyze market trends, product availability, and pricing fluctuations to make informed purchasing decisions.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, clinicians, and other departments to understand specific needs and ensure product quality and suitability.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures related to pharmaceutical purchasing and storage.
- Process invoices, resolve discrepancies, and maintain accurate purchasing records.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements within the pharmacy supply chain.
- Assist with recall management and product obsolescence processes.
- Maintain positive relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in pharmacy purchasing or pharmaceutical supply chain management.
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical products, medical terminology, and healthcare supply chain operations.
- Proven negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in inventory management software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Pharmacy, or a related field.
- Certification in Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).
- Experience with Epic Willow or similar pharmacy information systems.
- Familiarity with GPO contracts and purchasing agreements.
