Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Chemistry Research Intern to join our Analytical Lab team in Detroit, MI. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a leading global chemical company. The intern will support our research and development efforts by performing various analytical tests, assisting with experimental design, and contributing to data analysis under the guidance of experienced scientists. This role is ideal for students pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field with a strong interest in analytical techniques and laboratory work.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine analytical tests and experiments following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Assist in the preparation of chemical samples and reagents.
- Operate and maintain analytical instruments such as GC, HPLC, UV-Vis, or FTIR.
- Accurately record and document experimental data, observations, and results.
- Perform preliminary data analysis and generate reports.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
- Collaborate with research scientists and technicians on ongoing projects.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Fundamental understanding of general chemistry principles and laboratory safety.
- Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques (e.g., solution preparation, titration).
- Ability to accurately record and analyze scientific data.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in an academic or industrial laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with specific analytical instrumentation (e.g., Chromatography, Spectroscopy).
- Experience with statistical analysis software or data visualization tools.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
