Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Point-of-Sale Pharmacy Clerk to join our dynamic pharmacy team in Des Moines, Iowa. In this vital role, you will be the first point of contact for many of our pharmacy customers, providing exceptional retail service and ensuring smooth, accurate transactions. You will support the pharmacy operations by managing the front-end sales area, assisting customers with over-the-counter products, and contributing to a positive and efficient pharmacy environment. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately process all point-of-sale transactions, including cash, credit, debit, and other payment methods for prescriptions and over-the-counter products.
- Greet customers warmly, answer general inquiries, and direct them to appropriate pharmacy staff for medical advice or prescription pickup.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked pharmacy front-end, including shelves, checkout areas, and product displays.
- Assist customers in locating over-the-counter medications and other pharmacy merchandise.
- Handle customer returns, exchanges, and complaints with professionalism and efficiency.
- Verify customer identification for controlled substances as per company policy and legal requirements.
- Support inventory management by assisting with stock checks, receiving shipments, and ensuring proper product rotation.
- Operate pharmacy software systems to record sales and manage customer information.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and relevant legal regulations regarding pharmacy operations and retail sales.
Required Skills
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong basic math skills for accurate transaction processing.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to operate a point-of-sale (POS) system and handle cash.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail, customer service, or pharmacy setting.
- Familiarity with pharmacy operations or terminology.
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish/English) is a plus.
