Job Description
As a Remote Subtitle & Caption Writer, you will be responsible for creating high-quality subtitles and captions for a diverse range of video content. This involves accurately transcribing spoken dialogue, identifying sound effects and music cues, and meticulously timing them to appear correctly on screen. Your work will directly impact the accessibility and enjoyment of Netflix content for viewers globally, including those with hearing impairments or who prefer to watch in their native language. This is a 100% remote position.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately transcribe spoken dialogue from audio and video content.
- Create clear, concise, and grammatically correct captions and subtitles.
- Synchronize subtitles/captions with on-screen audio and video.
- Identify and appropriately describe non-speech elements (e.g., music, sound effects) for accessibility.
- Adhere to Netflix's specific style guides and quality standards.
- Review and proofread your own work to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Manage workload and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Required Skills
- Exceptional proficiency in English language, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent listening and transcription skills.
- Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Reliable internet connection and a quiet home office environment.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- A keen interest in diverse media content (films, series, documentaries).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in transcription, subtitling, or captioning is a plus, but not required.
- Familiarity with subtitling software (e.g., Aegisub, Subtitle Edit).
- Understanding of accessibility guidelines (e.g., WCAG).
- Background in linguistics, communications, or media studies.
