Job Description

Hal Leonard is seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Sheet Music Editor to join our remote team. This role demands exceptional accuracy in transcribing, formatting, and proofreading sheet music across various genres and instrumentation. The successful candidate will work independently to ensure all published materials meet our rigorous quality standards, providing an invaluable resource for musicians worldwide. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to contribute your expertise from your home office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit and proofread sheet music for accuracy in notation, rhythm, harmony, and dynamics.
  • Format musical scores and parts using industry-standard notation software (e.g., Sibelius, Finale).
  • Verify copyright information, licensing details, and performance instructions.
  • Collaborate with composers, arrangers, and content creators to resolve discrepancies and ensure clarity.
  • Maintain strict adherence to established style guides and quality control standards.
  • Manage multiple editing projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines consistently.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on digital and print ready files.

Required Skills

  • Expert proficiency in music theory, harmony, and counterpoint.
  • Advanced skills in music notation software such as Sibelius or Finale.
  • Impeccable attention to detail and a keen eye for errors.
  • Strong understanding of various musical genres and their unique notation conventions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Theory, Composition, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in sheet music editing or publishing.
  • Experience with educational music publishing.
  • Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs) and audio editing.
  • Knowledge of multiple musical instruments and their specific ranges/transpositions.
