Job Description

As a Social Media Safety Screener – Online Content Guard at Google, you will be on the front lines of maintaining the safety and integrity of our platforms. Your primary responsibility will involve reviewing user-generated content, identifying violations of our community guidelines, and making accurate and timely decisions to ensure a safe and respectful online environment for all users. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong ethical judgment, and a steadfast commitment to protecting our users from harmful content, including but not limited to hate speech, graphic violence, misinformation, and harassment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze user-generated content across various social media platforms to ensure compliance with established community guidelines and policies.
  • Identify and escalate content that violates policies related to hate speech, graphic violence, misinformation, harassment, and other prohibited categories.
  • Apply content moderation policies consistently and accurately, making objective decisions in complex and nuanced situations.
  • Document findings and actions taken in a clear and concise manner, maintaining detailed records of content review.
  • Stay updated on evolving content policies, safety standards, and emerging online trends to adapt to new challenges.
  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners to improve content moderation processes, tools, and policy clarity.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive, and resilient team environment, sharing insights and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in content review.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate complex content.
  • Ability to make sound, unbiased decisions quickly under pressure and in high-volume environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • High level of empathy and understanding for diverse online communities and their sensitivities.
  • Resilience and ability to handle exposure to potentially disturbing or offensive content.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and web navigation tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in content moderation, trust and safety, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms and their community guidelines.
  • Knowledge of current online safety issues, trends, and regulatory landscapes.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a related discipline.
