Job Description
As a Specialty Pharmacy Technician with an Oncology & Biotech Focus at CVS Specialty, you will play a crucial role in supporting patients with complex and chronic conditions, specifically those undergoing oncology treatments and utilizing advanced biotech therapies. Your expertise will ensure accurate and timely medication dispensing, provide critical patient support, and streamline pharmacy operations. This role requires a meticulous individual with a strong commitment to patient care and a deep understanding of specialty pharmaceutical workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and dispense specialty medications, with a focus on oncology and biotech drugs, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Process and manage complex patient prescriptions, including insurance verification, prior authorizations, and refill coordination.
- Provide exceptional patient support, addressing inquiries regarding medication, side effects, and adherence in a compassionate and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate patient records and medication profiles in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Manage inventory of specialty medications, including ordering, receiving, and secure storage, adhering to specific handling requirements (e.g., refrigeration).
- Assist pharmacists in clinical program initiatives, patient outreach, and therapy management.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, patient care teams, and pharmaceutical manufacturers to ensure seamless patient access to therapies.
- Utilize pharmacy software systems for data entry, claims processing, and reporting.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Current Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) through PTCB or NHA.
- Active state pharmacy technician license/registration in Texas.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a specialty pharmacy, hospital, or retail setting.
- Demonstrated understanding of specialty medications, particularly in oncology and biotechnology.
- Proficiency in pharmacy computer systems and software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience specifically supporting oncology patients or handling biotech medications.
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field.
- Knowledge of insurance plans, prior authorization processes, and financial assistance programs for specialty medications.
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish) is a plus.
