Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Sterilization Technician to join our dedicated team in Charlotte, NC. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, and storage of medical instruments and equipment. Your work will directly contribute to patient safety and the efficient operation of our medical facilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment according to established policies and procedures.
  • Operate and maintain sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and washer-disinfectors.
  • Perform biological and chemical testing on sterilization equipment to ensure proper functionality and effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate records of all sterilization processes, including documentation of equipment cycles, instrument counts, and expiration dates.
  • Monitor inventory levels of sterile supplies and reorder as necessary to ensure continuous availability.
  • Inspect instruments for functionality, damage, and cleanliness, reporting any issues to supervisor.
  • Adhere strictly to infection control standards, safety regulations, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., AAMI, CDC, JCAHO).
  • Collaborate with surgical and clinical staff to anticipate instrument needs and facilitate timely delivery of sterile supplies.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices in sterile processing.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision.
  • Ability to follow strict protocols and procedures accurately.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy trays, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Basic computer proficiency for documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).
  • Prior experience in a sterile processing department within a hospital or surgical center.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and surgical instruments.
  • Experience with various sterilization methods and equipment.
