Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Student Accommodation Maintenance Hand to join our dedicated team in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne. This role is crucial for ensuring our student residents enjoy a well-maintained and comfortable living environment. You will be responsible for undertaking a variety of small, day-to-day maintenance tasks, ensuring prompt resolution of issues and contributing to the overall positive experience of our students. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with practical skills and a customer-focused attitude to make a tangible difference in our vibrant student community.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance tasks and minor repairs across student accommodation properties, including but not limited to, fixing dripping taps, changing light bulbs, basic carpentry, and minor plumbing issues.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to maintenance requests from students and staff, resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Conduct routine checks of communal areas and facilities, identifying and reporting any maintenance needs.
- Assist with the upkeep of external areas, including litter picking and ensuring clear pathways.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work completed and materials used.
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with the wider accommodation team to ensure a high standard of service delivery.
Required Skills
- Proven basic DIY and practical maintenance skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot common household issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to take initiative.
- Understanding of basic health and safety practices in a residential setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar maintenance or handyman role.
- Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, or carpentry fundamentals.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience working in a customer service environment.
