Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join Black Hills Energy as a Trainee Smart Meter Installer. This is an incredible opportunity for anyone looking to start a rewarding career in the energy sector, even without prior experience. We provide fully paid certification and comprehensive training to equip you with all the skills needed to excel in this essential role. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing smart meters for residential and commercial customers, ensuring accurate data collection and efficient energy management.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete a fully paid, in-depth training program to become a certified Smart Meter Installer.
- Safely and efficiently install, exchange, and remove smart electric and/or gas meters at customer premises.
- Perform basic diagnostic tests and troubleshooting on smart metering equipment.
- Accurately record installation data, meter readings, and service information using handheld devices.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, company policies, and regulatory guidelines.
- Provide excellent customer service, explaining the installation process and benefits of smart meters to customers.
- Operate company vehicles and equipment safely and responsibly.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and dispatch to optimize daily routes and tasks.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and in confined spaces.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a hands-on technical or field service role.
- Basic knowledge of electrical or gas systems.
- Customer service experience.
- Aptitude for learning new technologies quickly.
