Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging music lessons to students of various age groups, following established curriculum guidelines and lesson plans.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and musical exploration.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively and ensure student safety and well-being at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with school staff regarding student progress, classroom activities, and any observed needs.
  • Adapt to various school settings, student needs, and unexpected changes with professionalism and flexibility.
  • Adhere to all school and district policies and procedures, including those related to student conduct and safeguarding.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in musical instruments (e.g., piano, guitar, band/orchestral instruments) and/or strong vocal instruction skills.
  • Demonstrated strong classroom management skills and ability to maintain discipline.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new environments, diverse student populations, and pre-prepared lesson plans.
  • A genuine passion for music education and working with children and young adults.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a closely related field.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certification or a Missouri substitute teaching permit.
  • Previous experience teaching music in a K-12 educational setting, volunteer experience included.
  • Familiarity with various music curricula, teaching methodologies, and educational technology tools.
