Baylor Scott & White Health in Round Rock, TX, is seeking a motivated Trainee Occupational Therapy Aide to join our Public Healthcare team. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals looking to start a rewarding career in occupational therapy. Under the direct supervision of licensed Occupational Therapists, you will assist with patient care activities, prepare treatment areas, maintain equipment, and support the overall operations of the therapy department. This role offers an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop foundational skills in a supportive, public healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Occupational Therapists in providing therapeutic services to patients.
- Prepare treatment areas, equipment, and materials for daily therapy sessions.
- Help patients with transfers, mobility, and positioning as directed by the therapist.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the therapy gym and treatment rooms.
- Observe and report patient responses and progress to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Transport patients to and from the therapy department as needed.
- Perform clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, filing, and answering phones.
- Ensure proper inventory of supplies and equipment, notifying appropriate staff for reordering.
- Adhere to all safety, infection control, and privacy policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong empathy and a genuine desire to help others.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Physical ability to assist with patient transfers and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Enrollment or interest in an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) or Occupational Therapy (OT) program.
