Job Description
Are you passionate about safety and committed to developing skilled drivers? UPS is seeking a dedicated Driving Instructor to join our team in Seattle. In this critical role, you will be responsible for training and certifying the next generation of UPS drivers, ensuring they meet our rigorous safety standards and operational excellence. This position involves both classroom instruction and hands-on, behind-the-wheel training. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive classroom training sessions on UPS driving policies, safety protocols, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Provide practical, behind-the-wheel instruction to new and existing drivers, focusing on defensive driving techniques, vehicle inspection, and proper delivery procedures.
- Evaluate trainee performance and provide constructive feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate training records and ensure all necessary documentation is completed for certification.
- Stay current with all federal, state, and local driving regulations, as well as UPS internal safety policies.
- Collaborate with operations management to identify training needs and develop effective instructional strategies.
- Promote a strong safety culture and adherence to all company standards.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (3+ years) as a commercial driver with an impeccable safety record.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to instruct and motivate diverse groups.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations, safety standards, and vehicle operation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a driving instructor or trainer in a commercial setting.
- Certification in adult education or instructional design.
- Experience with UPS specific driving methodologies and technologies.
- Familiarity with local Seattle area roadways and traffic patterns.
