Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and reliable Hospital Porter to join our dedicated team supporting a major healthcare facility in Inglewood, CA. As a Hospital Porter, you will play a crucial role in the logistics and supply chain operations within the hospital, ensuring the efficient movement of patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens. This position requires excellent physical stamina, strong communication skills, and a compassionate approach to patient interaction. You will be an integral part of maintaining a smooth and responsive environment for both medical staff and patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport patients safely and comfortably between wards, departments, and diagnostic areas using wheelchairs, gurneys, or beds.
- Move medical equipment, laboratory specimens, pharmacy items, and confidential documents throughout the hospital.
- Deliver and retrieve linen, waste, and other essential supplies to various hospital units.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of rooms for meetings, events, or patient admissions/discharges.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of transport equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations, including infection control protocols.
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff, doctors, patients, and visitors.
- Respond promptly to requests for portering services via radio or pager system.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift, push, and pull heavy equipment and patients.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Basic understanding of hospital environments and patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or logistics setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Familiarity with hospital-grade cleaning and disinfection procedures.
