Job Description
Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a dedicated and physically capable Weekend Landscaping Aide to join our Facilities Management Services team. This part-time position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, have a strong work ethic, and are available on weekends. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the aesthetic appeal and functionality of our campus grounds, contributing to a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. No prior landscaping experience is required; we provide on-the-job training for motivated individuals eager to learn and contribute.
Key Responsibilities
- Mowing, trimming, and edging lawns.
- Weeding garden beds and maintaining planted areas.
- Raking leaves and clearing debris from pathways and common areas.
- Watering plants, shrubs, and trees as directed.
- Assisting with planting flowers, shrubs, and trees.
- Operating basic landscaping equipment safely and efficiently after training.
- Transporting materials and equipment across campus.
- Reporting any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Performing other general outdoor maintenance tasks as assigned.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods, including lifting, bending, and standing.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to tasks.
- Reliable and punctual, with a commitment to weekend availability.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team or independently.
- Basic understanding of safety protocols or willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in landscaping or general outdoor maintenance is a plus, but not required.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Familiarity with operating basic landscaping tools (e.g., mowers, trimmers).
