Job Description
Join the UNCC Facilities Management team as a Weekend Student Maintenance Aide. This is an excellent opportunity for a current student with basic handyman skills to gain practical experience in facility maintenance. You will assist with a variety of tasks across campus, ensuring our buildings and grounds are well-maintained and operational, primarily during weekend hours. This role offers flexible scheduling to accommodate your studies and provides a valuable hands-on learning experience in a supportive university environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks on campus buildings and facilities, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
- Assist full-time maintenance staff with larger projects and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Conduct routine inspections of campus areas to identify maintenance needs and report issues.
- Respond to urgent repair requests and general handyman tasks as needed.
- Help with setup and teardown for campus events, including moving furniture and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and campus users.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of handyman tasks and general maintenance principles.
- Ability to use hand tools and common power tools safely.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Reliability and punctuality, especially for weekend shifts.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand, walk, climb stairs, and perform repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as a student at UNCC or another accredited institution.
- Previous experience in a maintenance, repair, or handyman role (even informal experience).
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (preferred for campus mobility).
- CPR and First Aid certification.
