Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wind Turbine Component Driver with an Advanced Logistics focus to join our dedicated team. This critical role involves the safe and efficient transportation of oversized and specialized wind turbine components, including blades, tower sections, and nacelles, across various routes. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of heavy haul logistics, route planning, permitting, and compliance with all relevant transportation regulations. You will be instrumental in ensuring that vital components arrive on time and in perfect condition to support the construction and maintenance of our wind energy projects. This position requires exceptional driving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in complex logistical scenarios.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate specialized heavy haul trucks and trailers for the transportation of wind turbine components.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and cargo.
- Plan and execute optimal routes, considering road restrictions, permits, and delivery schedules.
- Secure and inspect loads meticulously to prevent damage or shifting during transit.
- Coordinate effectively with logistics coordinators, site managers, and escort teams.
- Maintain accurate electronic logs, mileage reports, and delivery documentation.
- Perform minor vehicle maintenance and report any major mechanical issues promptly.
- Navigate challenging terrains and adverse weather conditions safely.
- Participate in ongoing training and safety programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL A) with clean driving record.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in heavy haul or oversized load transportation.
- Proven experience transporting wind turbine components or similar large industrial equipment.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, including hours of service and weight restrictions.
- Ability to read maps, GPS, and understand complex route plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- Commitment to safety and meticulous attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized endorsements (e.g., hazmat, tanker) are a plus.
- Experience with specialized trailers (e.g., extendable, multi-axle).
- Familiarity with permitting processes for oversized loads in multiple states.
- Knowledge of advanced logistics software and route optimization tools.
- Mechanical aptitude for basic troubleshooting on the road.
