Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Correctional Facility Nurse to provide high-quality medical care within a secure environment. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for an incarcerated population. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to patient advocacy while adhering to strict security protocols. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care, including assessment, medication administration, and wound care, to patients within a correctional facility.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate first aid and life support as needed.
- Conduct health screenings and participate in chronic disease management programs.
- Document all patient interactions, treatments, and observations accurately and thoroughly.
- Collaborate with security staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure a safe and effective care environment.
- Educate patients on health maintenance and disease prevention.
- Adhere strictly to all facility policies, procedures, and security protocols.
- Assist with intake health assessments for new inmates.
Required Skills
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience.
- BLS certification (ACLS preferred).
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, secure environment.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and composure in challenging situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in correctional healthcare, emergency medicine, or mental health settings.
- Certification in Correctional Health Care (CCHC).
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations pertaining to correctional healthcare.
- Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
