Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Cemetery Groundskeeper to join our Public Works team in Shediac, New Brunswick. This respectful outdoor role is crucial in maintaining the immaculate appearance and serene environment of our public cemetery. The successful candidate will perform a variety of groundskeeping tasks, ensuring the cemetery is always presented with dignity and care. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a deep respect for the solemn nature of the workplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine lawn maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and edging grass.
- Cultivate and maintain flower beds, shrubs, and trees, including planting, watering, weeding, and pruning.
- Operate and maintain various groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools.
- Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the cemetery grounds, including debris removal, litter collection, and path sweeping.
- Assist with seasonal tasks such as leaf removal in autumn and light snow removal/ice management in winter.
- Maintain and repair cemetery infrastructure, including fences, gates, and markers, as needed.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, especially when operating machinery or handling chemicals.
- Interact respectfully and professionally with visitors and colleagues.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or general outdoor maintenance.
- Ability to operate various groundskeeping equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of appearance.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience specifically in cemetery maintenance or a similar sensitive environment.
- Knowledge of horticultural practices and plant care.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
