Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Yard Spotter / Switcher to join our Amazon Logistics team in Tacoma. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers within our yard, ensuring smooth inbound and outbound operations. This is an immediate hire position, operating Monday to Friday, offering a stable schedule and a dynamic work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently move trailers (dry van and/or refrigerated) between dock doors, parking spots, and staging areas within the yard.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on yard spotter equipment and trailers, documenting any defects or issues.
- Maintain organized trailer parking and staging areas to optimize yard flow and minimize congestion.
- Communicate effectively with warehouse and transportation teams regarding trailer availability and movement needs.
- Operate yard hostlers and other heavy equipment in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to all company safety protocols and DOT regulations.
- Assist with minor maintenance and upkeep of yard equipment as needed.
- Complete daily logs and reports accurately.
- Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve operational goals.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating a yard hostler/spotter or equivalent heavy equipment
- Clean driving record and ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and yard safety procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical ability to climb in and out of equipment and perform physical tasks as required
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience with a major logistics or retail distribution company
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) and yard management systems (YMS)
- Proven track record of safe work practices
