Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Flight Nurse (RN) with a strong emergency focus to join our dedicated Aeromedical Transport team based in Wesley Chapel, FL. This vital role involves providing advanced critical care during air transport for critically ill and injured patients. The Flight Nurse will work autonomously and as part of a highly skilled team, performing comprehensive patient assessments, initiating and managing complex interventions, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes in high-stress, rapidly changing environments. This position demands exceptional clinical judgment, strong decision-making skills, and a steadfast commitment to patient advocacy and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive patient assessment, triage, and stabilization during aeromedical transport.
- Initiate and manage advanced critical care interventions including ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, medication administration, and emergency procedures.
- Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment in a confined aircraft environment.
- Collaborate effectively with pilots, paramedics, physicians, and sending/receiving medical teams.
- Ensure accurate and thorough documentation of patient care, medical interventions, and flight details.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, regulations, and institutional policies for flight operations and patient transport.
- Maintain readiness for rapid deployment and respond effectively to emergent situations.
- Participate in ongoing training, simulations, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical skills and team performance.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring compassionate care and clear communication with patients and families.
Required Skills
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida.
- Minimum of 4 years of recent critical care experience (ICU, ED, CCU).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Current Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification.
- Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration and patient interaction.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver patients and equipment in confined spaces.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) certification.
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification.
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification.
- Previous aeromedical transport experience.
- Experience with specialty transports (e.g., IABP, ECMO, high-risk obstetrics).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
