Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Raw Materials Chemist with a strong focus on supply chain integration to join our team in New Port Richey, FL. This critical role involves ensuring the quality and integrity of raw materials from procurement through their use in manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in analytical chemistry, experience with various testing methodologies, and a keen understanding of how raw material specifications impact production and supply chain efficiency. You will collaborate closely with procurement, R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to optimize material selection, supplier qualification, and incoming inspection processes, contributing directly to product quality and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive chemical analysis and testing of incoming raw materials to ensure compliance with established specifications and quality standards.
  • Develop, validate, and implement new analytical methods for raw material characterization as needed, utilizing techniques such as spectroscopy (FTIR, UV-Vis), chromatography (HPLC, GC), and titrimetry.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and procurement teams to qualify new suppliers and assess the quality and consistency of their materials.
  • Investigate and resolve raw material non-conformances, working with suppliers to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Maintain accurate records of raw material testing results, specifications, and supplier performance data.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of raw material control processes, including sampling plans, testing frequencies, and specification management.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to manufacturing and R&D teams regarding raw material properties, compatibility, and potential impact on product performance.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USP, EP), and best practices in raw material quality control and supply chain management.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a raw materials testing or quality control laboratory within a regulated industry (e.g., pharmaceutical, chemical manufacturing, food & beverage).
  • Proficiency with a variety of analytical techniques, including HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, Karl Fischer titration, and wet chemistry methods.
  • Strong understanding of cGMP, ISO, or other relevant quality systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot analytical instrumentation and methods.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and inter-departmental collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or a related field.
  • Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with supplier auditing and qualification processes.
  • Experience in a role with direct involvement in supply chain quality or supplier development.
