Job Description
We are seeking an exceptionally talented and entrepreneurial Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) to lead the scientific vision and research strategy for a high-growth tech startup venture within HP Inc. This is a unique opportunity to shape the scientific direction of a cutting-edge initiative from its foundational stages, working at the intersection of deep scientific discovery and rapid technological deployment. The ideal candidate will possess a profound scientific background, a strong track record of innovation, and the strategic acumen to translate complex research into viable product pipelines and market opportunities. Key Responsibilities
- Define and articulate the overall scientific vision and research strategy for the tech startup venture.
- Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing team of scientists and researchers, fostering a culture of innovation, rigor, and collaboration.
- Oversee all research and development activities, ensuring scientific excellence, rigorous experimental design, and ethical standards.
- Translate scientific breakthroughs into tangible product development strategies and intellectual property.
- Evaluate emerging scientific trends and technologies to identify new opportunities and competitive advantages.
- Establish and manage external scientific collaborations, partnerships, and academic relationships.
- Represent the company's scientific endeavors to stakeholders, investors, and the broader scientific community.
- Contribute to securing funding rounds by clearly articulating the scientific merit and potential of the venture.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant scientific, regulatory, and safety guidelines.
Required Skills
- PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Biotechnology, Physics).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive scientific leadership experience, with a significant portion in a startup or fast-paced innovation environment.
- Demonstrated success in leading complex research projects from concept to application or product development.
- Deep expertise in a scientific domain critical to advanced technology development (e.g., AI/ML, Quantum Computing, Advanced Materials, Bio-interfaces, Robotics).
- Proven ability to attract, develop, and retain top scientific talent.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing both scientific and business audiences.
- Experience with intellectual property strategy and portfolio management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a CSO or Head of R&D in a venture-backed tech startup.
- A track record of securing significant grant funding or investor capital.
- Experience bringing scientific discoveries through multiple stages of product development to market.
- A strong publication and patent record.
- Existing network within the academic and startup scientific communities.
- Experience in cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management in a large corporate environment.
