Job Description

Are you a responsible 13-year-old looking for easy, local summer work? Grand Prairie Parks and Recreation is seeking enthusiastic and reliable teens to join our team as Plant Sitters! This is a fantastic opportunity to earn some extra money, enjoy the outdoors, and gain valuable experience in plant care and responsibility. You’ll be tasked with watering, monitoring, and providing basic care for plants in various residential and community settings throughout Grand Prairie while residents are away. No extensive experience is required, just a willingness to learn and a commitment to keeping plants happy and healthy!

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow detailed watering schedules and instructions for various plant types.
  • Monitor plants for signs of distress, pests, or disease and report findings.
  • Ensure plants receive adequate sunlight or shade as needed.
  • Perform light pruning or deadheading under supervision, if required.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work area around plants.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding plant status and any issues.
  • Adhere to scheduled visit times and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Handle all equipment and property with care and respect.

Required Skills

  • Ages 13-17 (with parental consent)
  • Reliable and responsible demeanor
  • Ability to follow instructions carefully
  • Basic interest in plants or gardening (willingness to learn is key)
  • Good communication skills
  • Access to transportation (e.g., bike, parent drop-off) to various Grand Prairie locations
  • Commitment to completing assigned tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience caring for house plants or a home garden.
  • Enthusiasm for outdoor activities and nature.
  • Proximity to different neighborhoods within Grand Prairie.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
