Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Archaeologist / Heritage Manager to join our growing environmental and heritage team in Basildon. This is a unique opportunity for a talented professional to contribute to significant projects across the UK, with visa sponsorship provided for eligible international candidates. You will play a crucial role in advising clients on archaeological and heritage matters, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practice standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in archaeological fieldwork, assessment, and project management, with a passion for protecting and promoting our shared cultural heritage.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee archaeological and heritage projects from inception to completion, including fieldwork, desk-based assessments, and impact assessments.
- Provide expert advice to clients, project teams, and stakeholders on heritage legislation, policy, and best practice.
- Prepare high-quality reports, archaeological specifications, method statements, and tenders.
- Conduct site visits, surveys, and fieldwork as required, ensuring health and safety compliance.
- Liaise with local authorities, Historic England, and other regulatory bodies.
- Lead and mentor junior team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive working environment.
- Contribute to business development activities and bid proposals.
- Ensure all work is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest professional standards.
Required Skills
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Heritage Management, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in archaeological project management and fieldwork.
- Strong understanding of UK heritage legislation, planning policy, and guidance (e.g., NPPF, HB&C Act).
- Excellent report writing and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in GIS and archaeological software.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Full UK driving license or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Archaeology or Heritage Management.
- Membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) at Associate or Member level.
- Experience in environmental impact assessments (EIA) related to heritage.
- Demonstrable experience with public consultation and stakeholder engagement.
- Proficiency in additional languages relevant to international project work.
