Job Description
Join our team as a Public Transit Secret Rider to play a crucial role in maintaining and improving the quality of service across Pace’s bus and potentially Metra train routes. This stable, full-time position involves confidentially evaluating various aspects of public transit operations, including driver performance, vehicle condition, adherence to schedules, and overall passenger experience. Your objective observations and detailed reports will directly contribute to strategic service enhancements and operational adjustments, ensuring a high standard of public transportation for our communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Discreetly ride assigned bus and train routes during various times of day and week.
- Observe and document driver/operator performance, professionalism, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Evaluate the cleanliness, comfort, and operational condition of vehicles (buses and trains).
- Monitor schedule adherence, including on-time performance and efficient route navigation.
- Assess passenger amenities, accessibility features, and overall rider experience.
- Provide detailed, objective, and unbiased written reports on observations and findings.
- Identify areas for improvement in service delivery and operational efficiency.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding role and findings.
- Participate in training sessions to understand evaluation criteria and reporting procedures.
Required Skills

- Strong written communication skills for clear and concise reporting.
- Ability to work independently and maintain discretion.
- Reliability and punctuality for assigned routes.
- Basic computer proficiency for report submission.
- Must be able to travel extensively within the Pace service area.
- Comfortable using public transportation frequently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with public transit systems (as a rider).
- Familiarity with the Pace Suburban Bus and/or Metra rail networks.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules and route assignments.
