Job Description
As a FedEx Fleet Asset Manager, you will play a critical role in optimizing the performance and longevity of our extensive fleet of vehicles in the New Orleans region. This hybrid administrative and technical position requires a meticulous approach to asset lifecycle management, combining strategic planning with hands-on oversight. You will be responsible for everything from procurement and deployment to maintenance scheduling, repair oversight, and ultimately, asset retirement. Your expertise will ensure our fleet operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all regulatory standards, directly contributing to FedEx’s commitment to timely and reliable service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the complete lifecycle of fleet assets, including procurement, deployment, utilization, maintenance, and disposition.
- Develop and implement fleet maintenance schedules, ensuring adherence to preventative maintenance programs and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee and manage third-party repair vendors, negotiating service contracts and ensuring cost-effective, high-quality repairs.
- Monitor fleet performance metrics, including fuel efficiency, maintenance costs, and uptime, identifying areas for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of all fleet assets, including registration, licensing, service history, and depreciation.
- Administer fleet-related budgets, tracking expenditures and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations and company policies.
- Provide technical guidance and support to operational teams regarding fleet capabilities and limitations.
- Conduct regular fleet inspections to assess condition and identify potential issues proactively.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on fleet status, performance, and future asset needs for senior management.
Required Skills
- Minimum 5 years of experience in fleet management or a similar asset management role.
- Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics, diagnostics, and maintenance procedures.
- Proficiency in fleet management software and systems (e.g., telematics, CMMS).
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Proven ability to manage budgets and control costs effectively.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations and other transportation compliance requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related technical field.
- ASE Certification or other relevant technical certifications.
- Experience with a large-scale, geographically dispersed fleet.
- Project management experience.
- Familiarity with alternative fuel vehicles and sustainable fleet practices.
