Job Description
We are seeking a highly meticulous and experienced Sheet Music Editor to join our remote team. This role demands exceptional attention to detail and a profound understanding of music notation and theory. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing, proofreading, and editing sheet music to ensure the highest level of accuracy and consistency across various musical genres and formats. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Thoroughly proofread and edit musical scores for accuracy in notation, rhythm, harmony, and dynamics.
- Verify adherence to established house style guides and industry standards.
- Identify and correct errors in typesetting, spacing, alignment, and overall layout.
- Cross-reference source material against edited versions to ensure fidelity.
- Collaborate with transcribers, engravers, and project managers to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain meticulous records of edits and changes made.
- Manage multiple editing projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of editing workflows and style guidelines.
Required Skills
- Expert-level knowledge of music theory, harmony, and notation conventions.
- Proficiency with music notation software (e.g., Finale, Sibelius, Dorico).
- Exceptional attention to detail and a keen eye for errors.
- Strong command of the English language, including grammar and spelling.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
- Familiarity with various musical genres and their specific notational requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Theory, Music Performance, or a related field.
- Experience with digital asset management systems.
- Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., German, Italian, French).
- Professional experience as a copy editor or proofreader in a publishing context.
- Ability to play a musical instrument proficiently.
