Job Description
An exciting entry-level opportunity to join the Isle of Wight Council as a Trainee Surveying Technician. You will be part of the Department of Lands, gaining hands-on experience in land surveying, mapping, and data management. This role is perfect for individuals keen to start a career in surveying, offering comprehensive training and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior surveyors with on-site data collection and measurements.
- Learn to operate and maintain surveying equipment, including Total Stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and laser scanners.
- Participate in the processing and analysis of survey data.
- Support the creation and updating of land records, maps, and digital plans.
- Conduct research and gather information pertinent to land parcels and boundaries.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations on all survey sites.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all fieldwork and observations.
- Contribute to reports and presentations under supervision.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in land surveying, geography, or civil engineering.
- Basic understanding of mathematical principles.
- Proficiency in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies.
- Physical fitness for fieldwork in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- A-levels or equivalent in a STEM subject (Maths, Geography, Physics).
- Experience with CAD software or GIS systems (even introductory level).
- Full UK driving license.
- Previous experience in an outdoor or technical role.
