Job Description
We are seeking an exceptionally talented and driven Senior Research Scientist to lead product innovation initiatives within our advanced materials and applied sciences division. This pivotal role involves conceptualizing, designing, and executing complex research projects from initial ideation through to prototype development. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader, adept at translating scientific discoveries into commercially viable products, and capable of working across multidisciplinary teams to drive significant breakthroughs. This hybrid position requires regular on-site presence at our state-of-the-art Kansas City facilities for laboratory work, collaboration, and project oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, planning, and execution of complex research projects focused on product innovation and development.
- Identify emerging scientific trends and technologies to inform new product opportunities and strategic research directions.
- Develop and optimize experimental protocols, ensuring scientific rigor and reproducibility.
- Mentor junior scientists and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation and scientific excellence.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and patent applications.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, academic partners, and industry experts.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure timely and successful project completion.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and ethical guidelines in research.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in product-focused research and development.
- Proven track record of successful product innovation and intellectual property generation (patents, publications).
- Strong expertise in experimental design, data analysis, and statistical methods.
- Proficiency with advanced analytical techniques and laboratory instrumentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information clearly.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience managing research projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with grant writing and securing external research funding.
- Familiarity with regulatory pathways for product commercialization.
- Prior experience in a contract research organization (CRO) or industrial R&D setting.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
- Expertise in specific areas such as nanotechnology, advanced polymers, or bio-materials.
