Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Natural Products Chemist with a strong focus on herbal and dietary supplements to join our innovative R&D team. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere within the United States. In this role, you will be instrumental in the research, development, and analytical testing of novel natural ingredients and finished product formulations. You will apply advanced chemical principles to extract, isolate, identify, and characterize active compounds from natural sources, ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of our diverse product portfolio. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of natural product chemistry, modern analytical techniques, and a passion for health and wellness.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on natural products, including botanicals, extracts, and dietary ingredients, to support new product development and existing product improvements.
- Perform extraction, isolation, purification, and structural elucidation of active compounds from natural sources using various chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques (HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, NMR).
- Develop and validate analytical methods for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of natural ingredients and finished supplement products.
- Evaluate the stability, bioavailability, and potential interactions of natural compounds within complex formulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing, to ensure product integrity and compliance.
- Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory notebooks and documentation in accordance with GLP/GMP principles.
- Prepare technical reports, summaries, and presentations for internal stakeholders and scientific conferences.
- Stay current with scientific literature, industry trends, and regulatory changes pertaining to natural products and dietary supplements.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or M.S. in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in natural product chemistry, phytochemistry, or analytical chemistry within the herbal, supplement, food, or pharmaceutical industry.
- Proficiency in advanced analytical techniques, including HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, and UV-Vis spectroscopy.
- Demonstrated experience in natural product isolation, purification, and structural elucidation.
- Strong understanding of cGMP and GLP regulations relevant to dietary supplements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to design and execute complex experiments independently.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information clearly.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with method development and validation for botanical extracts and complex matrices.
- Familiarity with regulatory guidelines for dietary supplements (e.g., FDA, EFSA).
- Knowledge of statistical analysis software and data interpretation.
- Prior experience working with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) or Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs).
