Job Description

Second Harvest Heartland is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Non-Profit & NGO Intern to join our team. This flexible-hours internship is perfect for individuals passionate about social impact and eager to learn the operational aspects of a leading food bank. As an intern, you will support various departments, including program development, volunteer coordination, communications, and administrative functions, playing a crucial role in our mission to end hunger.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of various programs and events.
  • Support the volunteer services team by helping with volunteer recruitment, scheduling, and on-site support.
  • Contribute to communications and outreach efforts, including drafting social media content, newsletters, and promotional materials.
  • Conduct research on best practices in hunger relief, community engagement, and non-profit management.
  • Provide administrative support, including data entry, filing, and managing correspondence.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with staff on special projects as assigned, contributing fresh perspectives and ideas.

Required Skills

  • Strong passion for social justice and community service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Non-Profit Management, Social Work, Public Administration, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Previous volunteer experience with a non-profit organization.
  • Familiarity with CRM software or donor management systems.
  • Ability to commit to a flexible schedule, approximately 15-20 hours per week.
