Job Description
Are you looking for an opportunity to make a tangible difference in your community while gaining invaluable experience in the non-profit sector? Second Harvest Heartland is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Non-Profit & NGO Intern to join our team. This flexible-hours internship is perfect for individuals passionate about social impact and eager to learn the operational aspects of a leading food bank. As an intern, you will support various departments, including program development, volunteer coordination, communications, and administrative functions, playing a crucial role in our mission to end hunger.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of various programs and events.
- Support the volunteer services team by helping with volunteer recruitment, scheduling, and on-site support.
- Contribute to communications and outreach efforts, including drafting social media content, newsletters, and promotional materials.
- Conduct research on best practices in hunger relief, community engagement, and non-profit management.
- Provide administrative support, including data entry, filing, and managing correspondence.
- Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with staff on special projects as assigned, contributing fresh perspectives and ideas.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for social justice and community service.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Non-Profit Management, Social Work, Public Administration, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
- Previous volunteer experience with a non-profit organization.
- Familiarity with CRM software or donor management systems.
- Ability to commit to a flexible schedule, approximately 15-20 hours per week.
