Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Hospital Pharmacy Technician for a clinical role with a night shift differential. This crucial position involves working closely with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safe, accurate, and timely preparation and distribution of medications, particularly during overnight hours. The successful candidate will play a vital role in patient care, focusing on medication management, sterile compounding, and supporting clinical pharmacy initiatives. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, a strong understanding of pharmacy operations, and a commitment to patient safety in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense medications accurately, including sterile and non-sterile compounds, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Assist pharmacists with medication reconciliation, patient medication histories, and unit dose packaging.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of medications and supplies, assisting with ordering, receiving, and stocking.
  • Perform routine checks for expired medications and ensure proper storage conditions.
  • Operate and maintain automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell).
  • Respond to and prioritize medication requests and STAT orders during the night shift.
  • Participate in quality control activities and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and hospital regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members regarding medication orders and availability.
  • Contribute to a clean, organized, and safe working environment.

Required Skills

  • Active Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) from PTCB or NHA
  • State of Florida Pharmacy Technician registration
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a hospital setting
  • Proficiency in sterile compounding techniques
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with pharmacy information systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team during night shifts
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Advanced certification in sterile compounding or other specialty areas
  • Experience with AdventHealth's specific pharmacy software (if applicable)
  • Previous experience in a clinical pharmacy role or with clinical support tasks
