Job Description
Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Part-Time Parish Nurse to join our Community & Church Outreach team in Huntington Beach. This unique role integrates professional nursing with spiritual care, focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, and resource navigation within local faith communities and the broader community. The Parish Nurse will serve as a health advocate, educator, and counselor, working collaboratively with church leadership and community organizations to address the holistic health needs of individuals and families. This is a hybrid role, requiring a balance of on-site presence within assigned churches/community centers and some administrative duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide health education, screenings, and health counseling to individuals and groups within designated churches and community settings.
- Act as a health advocate and liaison between community members and healthcare services, assisting with navigation of the healthcare system.
- Integrate spiritual care principles into health practices, respecting diverse faith traditions and personal beliefs.
- Develop and implement health promotion programs tailored to the needs of specific faith communities (e.g., nutrition, chronic disease management, mental health awareness).
- Collaborate with clergy and church volunteers to identify and address health concerns within the congregation and wider community.
- Facilitate support groups and workshops on relevant health topics.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of activities and patient interactions in compliance with HIPAA and professional standards.
- Participate in community health fairs and outreach events.
Required Skills
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in community health, public health, or a related field.
- Strong assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique needs of faith communities.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for documentation and communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
- Previous experience in parish nursing, community outreach, or faith-based healthcare.
- Certification in Community Health Nursing or Parish Nursing.
- Experience in program development and implementation.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
